NIKKI MARLEY (General Manager)

Nikki Marley has over 20 years experience in care, particularly in managing care services.  During her career, she has accumulated a great depth and range of experience, working with adults with learning difficulties, mental health issues, brain injury and sensory impairment, in a variety of settings including residential, community support and supported living.

Nikki joined the Fifth Trust as General Manager in July 2007, and has overseen a steady growth in the Trust's range of services and student numbers.  She has taken the lead in shaping the Trust’s person-centred approach to care management, with its emphasis on supporting each individual student to strengthen their life skills, build their confidence and independence, and expand their self-determination.  Nikki and her team at the Fifth Trust Centre have been independently recognised as one of the UK's leading practical exponents of this approach, which is at the core of UK national and local government social care policy.

Nikki holds NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Management and the Preliminary Certificate in Social Care.  She lives in Ospringe with her husband and her hobbies includes Clay Pigeon Shooting, Scuba Diving and Skiing.

 

PETER BUSCALL (Horticulture manager)

Peter Buscall trained at Hadlow College, and has had a career in commercial and retail horticulture for 25 years, working in a large local garden centre and nursery.  As Contracts Manager, he was responsible for the management of external contracts supplying local authorities and local businesses.

Peter was appointed Horticulture Manager for the Fifth Trust in 2009, and from scratch has established a large and successful horticulture department.  This now includes The Vineyard Garden Centre, the Greenbanks Growing Project and a garden maintenance service, which creates meaningful work experience and opportunities for Fifth Trust students.

Peter has used his network of external contacts to create excellent opportunities for our students to work with community groups, including Herne Bay in Bloom, Canterbury City Council, Serco, local schools and businesses. He is currently producing a new training and education programme.

Peter lives in Canterbury with his wife Kaie and their three sons, the eldest of whom helps at the Centre during weekends and holidays.  Peter enjoys work and all things outdoors.


 

MIKE THEOFF (Operations and Care Manager)   

Mike Theoff has been associated with the community around the Fifth Trust for almost 20 years.  Initially, he worked at Bridge house, one of the affiliated residential homes, for 10 years from when it first opened in 1994.  He came over to work in the Trust’s day services, initially as an instructor, then deputy manager and he took over as Operations and Care Manager 7 years ago.

Mike has qualifications in health and social care and team leading.  Prior to joining Bridge House, he worked in day care provision catering for children and adolescents from disadvantaged backgrounds.  From there he moved to work in a residential unit catering for adolescents.

Mike's interests include cycling, music (he can play the drums), social activities, pool he has represented Canterbury) and has recently taken up bowls.

Mike and his family live in Lyminge.  His wife Kate works at St Nicholas School, a community day school providing education to children who have profound, severe and complex learning difficulties.  Their two children (13 and 17) have been brought up in the environment, and residents of Bridge House have seen them grow and develop since holding them as babies.
