Barham skills centre milestone

10 November 2021

Trustees of The Fifth Trust visited our Barham skills centre redevelopment last Friday – and witnessed the final roof panel on the amenity hub being fitted.

The milestone means the main building – which will house the eating and meeting area, sensory room, kitchen and changing facilities – is now weatherproofed and ready for internal works to begin.

The trustees also toured the media and art buildings, which are further along and give a clear picture of the light-filled, accessible spaces our students will be able to enjoy.

Chair of trustees Suzanne O’Brien said: “Touring the site and seeing the final roof panel lifted into place was exhilarating. We are a small charity with big ambitions and the new buildings will give us the space and facilities we need to deliver our services. I am very grateful for, and humbled by, the passion of our team of volunteers, staff and contractors who are working together to deliver our vision.”

The redeveloped skills centre, which will open next year, is the result of a fundraising campaign which has seen us secure over £1.6 million in grants and donations from members of the public, companies and other charitable bodies. We still need to raise funds for internal fittings and landscaping to give students an equally beautiful outside space to relax in, so if you would like to make a donation, please visit
